NFL Player Turns Profit on South Charlotte Home

The south Charlotte mansion of Houston Texans' Johnathan Joseph has sold after an online auction last month.

According to Mecklenburg County property records, the 15,454-square-foot gated home carried a sale price of $3.25 million, or $1.4 million more than the $1.83 million that Joseph and wife Delaina paid for the home in 2014 following a foreclosure of the property.

The modern estate, which sits on 1.6 acres in Charlotte's Seven Eagles neighborhood, had originally been listed at nearly $5 million last August and dropped in price to $4.69 million at the end of January. The property includes eight bedrooms in addition to eight full- and three half-bathrooms as well as features such as a home gym, theater and elevator. The outdoor space has a kitchen, vanishing-edge pool and basketball court. 

Charlotte-based Interluxe handled the advertising and online bidding services for the home. It required a minimum bid of $1.5 million, and a 7.5% buyer's premium had been set for the home. Further information about the auction, including how many bids the home received, was not immediately available.

The Texans recently resigned Joseph, a Charlotte-area native, to a two-year, $10 million deal, as reported by the Houston Chronicle. The cornerback, who played football at Northwestern High School in Rock Hill and later at the University of South Carolina, is about to enter his 13th season in the NFL.

"The seller had planned to retire here but opportunities in life changed," said Stacy Kirk, director of client development for Interluxe, last month ahead of the auction.
Originally built in 2008, the home on Winged Bourne has never been occupied, according to its listing on Interluxe.
