Holland mansion going to auction with no minimum bid required

By  | DETROIT FREE PRESS -

A Holland mansion previously listed for $5.65 million is up for an absolute auction, or no required minimum bid, next month.

According to a news release, the 40-plus-acre Lake Michigan Area Estate includes a four-bedroom, seven-bathroom home located at 6479 144th Ave., in Holland. The property will be open for bid at 3 p.m. June 11, through North Carolina-based Interluxe, a real estate online auction company.

According to Interluxe, participants must pay a $100,000 refundable deposit to engage in the online auction, and the highest bidder will be the new owner of the house.

"Online auctions are fast becoming the method of choice for selling one-of-a-kind luxury properties. There are several reasons for this," Interluxe president Scott Kirk said in the news release. "First, it attracts a wider pool of interested buyers than traditional real estate marketing. "With more people able to bid virtually, it's easier to obtain a fair market value. Both buyers and sellers appreciate that."

Following the bid, the buyer will close on the house 45 days later, according to the news release.

"This allows the sellers to move on with their lives, rather than wait possibly months for the right buyer," Kirk said.

The home will be sold furnished. The property also includes a 1-mile-long, sprinkler-equipped motocross track as well as a swimming pool, 2-acre pond and trails for mountain biking, ATVs, horseback riding and cross-country skiing.

Kyle Schrader, Interluxe business development director, said the owner has several collectible vehicles, one of which he plans to sell separately from the auction.

Prior to the bid, anyone interested in purchasing the home can visit the property from 11 a.m.-3 p.m. on June 7-8, and 1-4 p.m. on June 9.

In addition to the Holland property, a home in Superior Township in Washtenaw County will be up for auction.

The 50-acre property, Dogwood Manor, is at 8387 Ford Road. The property will be sold in an at-or-above auction, meaning that the property will sold based on who bids at or above the set amount.

The house, previously listed $2.8 million, will be available at $1.675 million. Participants are required to submit a $25,000 refundable deposit. The home features four bedrooms, five bathrooms, and two partial bathrooms.

The auction for the Superior Township home is set for June 24. The property can be viewed on June 21-23.

Schrader said a unique feature is that both properties have underground tunnels that lead from the homes to the garages
