Charlevoix mansion becomes one of most expensive ever sold in Michigan

CHARLEVOIX, MI - Sold! A Northern Michigan mansion has been purchased at auction for a whopping $9.845 million dollars, making it one of the most expensive residential properties ever sold in the state.

MLive first told you about this home at 08425 Raspberry Lane in Charlevoix being put up for auction late last month by luxury real estate marketplace, Interluxe.

According to Interluxe, the $9.845 million price tag is the 5th highest resale price ever for a residential property in Michigan and will be made official when the property closes.

When the lakefront home went on the auction block on May 31st, there were more than $205 million in total bids over four days.

“This was an extraordinary auction,” said Scott Kirk, President of Interluxe. “The immense level of interest from potential buyers to the amount of bidder activity was incredible. The property is one of the most beautiful in all of Michigan and the results reflect that.”

Built in 2009, this 10,000 square foot home was designed by J Bradley Moore & Associates Architects for Frank Macher, a longtime automotive and plastics industry executive. Macher passed away earlier this year, so his trust put put the home on the auction block.

The home is situated on three acres along Lake Charlevoix. It features an outdoor stone fireplace and pavilion overlooking a 600-foot stream with numerous waterfalls flowing into a private pond. The property also comes with a 230-foot permanent dock with two boat lifts and a sun deck.

Inside, there are seven bedrooms, plus eight full and two half bathrooms. One of the visual centerpieces is the 30+ foot spiral staircase. There’s also Creston controls for home automation, a fully integrated security system, stereo/surround sound throughout and a backup generator.

The lower walkout level has a theater, home gym, 2,000-bottle wine cellar and a recreation room with a Malaysian-imported bar. There’s also a separate apartment above the 4.5-car garage which has a full kitchen and living area.
